Fire Quartz, also known as Fire Agate, is a is a microcrystalline quartz and a variety of chalcedony, the result of massive volcanic activity during the Tertiary Period, approximately 24-36 million years ago in certain areas of South America. The fire agates were formed when hot water, saturated with silica and iron oxide, fill cracks and bubbles in the surrounding rock.
